c. 50,000
BC- An unknown alien race stumbles across the Earth, then in an ice age.
Finding bands of sentient creatures and worrying about their extinction, the
aliens seed at least 10 worlds (and possibly more) with Homo Sapiens and Homo Neanderthalensis to ensure
their survival. A New Floridian
archeological team will discover evidence of “seeding” in a dig on Emerson near
the New Floridian city of Cape Dade in 2422. They discover a probe near some
ancient ruins that they somehow activate which documents the removal of tribes
from Earth and the placement of those tribes onto other worlds.
2000-
beginning of 21st Century on Earth
September
11th, 2001- The destruction of the World Trade Center in New York
sparks the War on Terror. Largely headed by the US, it spends billions rooting
out terror worldwide.
2011- The
foundation of the African Alliance (many African countries align their
governments in a mini-UN) Europeans living in Africa finally accept the fact
that they are not at home and begin to live amongst their African neighbors. A
new era of prosperity begins in Central and Southern Africa as the economies of
the nations boom.
2015- Mars
is colonized.
2022-
foundation of the Arab Islamic Republic (N. Africa and Middle East excluding
Israel.)
2020s-
Nanotechnology is created cheaper. It allows for megastructures to be built.
2025- FTL
Travel discovered.
2026- The
capital city of the Asteroid Belt, Asteropolis, opens as the center of
all mining activity. It is also used, at times, as a way‑station
and
refueling depot for increasing outer planet
expeditions, along with a port of exit for all interstellar liners later in the
century. The Asteroid Belt will benefit greatly from the development of FTL
travel.
2028- The
African Alliance becomes the African Alliance Republic as much of Central and
Southern Africa unites. Nations not joining are Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi,
Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Madagascar, South Africa, Lesotho, and Swaziland.
2030- The
African Alliance and Arab Islamic Republic begin a series of wars that will
last for nearly 50 years. The fourth will devastate much of the continent and
leave half a billion dead.
2030s- The nations at the southern tip of Africa
unify into the South African Union.
2040 - The
"Galileo" class transports enter service. The U.N.S.S. "Tycho Brahe,"
among others of this class, will become
the most durable workhorses in
spaceflight history. Extremely durable and long‑lasting vessels,
these
early fusion ships will be able to attain
up to 0.35c and enable travel to
the outer planets and beyond into
interstellar space. They are also equipped with FTL Drive Engines. These are the first ships
with elementary interstellar celestial navigation, with a
ship's complement of 98 and 521 passengers. The first extrasolar
colonies are opened up
with this vessel class 73 different variants of this vessel will be
produced, some with an overall length of
1,200 meters (82% of the mass
being fuel)
2058-
Commercial interplanetary and interstellar
travel begins for the Terrans with the inaugural
flight of Galaxy Star Lines And a new species will soon inhabit the
Solar
System: the tourist. The "Magellan" class spaceliners
enter service, each
carrying 660 passengers from Earth to the
Asteroid Belt and beyond to the stars.
The "Prince Of Wales" will be
the most famous ship of this class, commanded by Captain
Lars Olmstead. .
2061- The
"Glenn" class spacebus enters service. Over 1200 of these principal
surface‑to‑orbit carriers
will be built, each with a complement of 128 and
with the ability to carry up to 950
passengers. Their convertible inter‑
iors make them useful for both industrial
transport and passenger service
around Earth, orbital satellite‑cities,
Mars, the Asteroid Belt, outer system colonies and
to the Alpha Centauri Colonies.
2090- The
fourth Arab-African war begins on December 27th. The rest of the world watches
but does not get involved, but see 2094.
2090s-
During this period, 3 ships are stolen by two groups. No one knows where the
15,000 people went. One group was from Europe, the other, Senegal. The latter
were fleeing the advancing Alliance armies.
Also during
this period, the Indian Exodus begins. By 2100, India will lose half a billion
of her people, through warfare and migration to North America, Europe, and the
colonies, mainly the colonies on Tau Ceti.
2091-
Within the first four months of this year, the Alliance 6th
Republican Army captures most of Senegal, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania and move to
within 125 kilometers of Rabat, Morocco. Meanwhile, the Republican 5th captures Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, and
much of the Sudan and southern Egypt, coming to within 100 kilometers of Luxor.
The 4th marches out of the Central African Republic and easily
captures Niger and Chad. N’Jdema, the capital of Chad, is leveled to the ground
when it resists. After June, the Alliance armies do not advance any further and
a war of attrition begins.
2092-
Argentina sends aid to the African Alliance. Horrified, the first-world nations
convene a convention at Geneva in October. The end result is world unification.
(See 2073)
2093- First
-world nations (Western and Northern Europe, North America, Australia, New
Zealand, southeast Asia (except Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia) unify,
mainly because of the war. The countries are no longer independent nations but
states in a larger world government. The government is called the United
Commonwealth. The capital is first in Geneva, then moved to New York City. A
new charter is drawn up, a Senate and Assembly
is formed and a new political era begins on Earth. Meanwhile, the horror
continues to rage in Africa.
2094- India
begins a war with Pakistan which drags them into the war with the Arab Islamic
Republic. Seeing no other alternative except war with the Arab Islamic
Republic, South Africa, Brazil, Argentina, Singapore, and Malaysia all join the
new United Nations.
An Interplanetary Communications Network
guarantees reliable commun‑
ications throughout the Solar
System. Mohammed Kahlil, first
Secretary-General
of the United Nations Commonwealth of
Earth, makes the inaugural transmission from the L‑4 Communications Platform.
2096- India
launches low-grade atomic weapons against the capitals of Pakistan and Iran.
Nearly 2 million die. The AIR responds by nukeing Bombay and New Delhi, killing
nearly 10 million Indian citizens. The Commonwealth is horrified by the
devastation and call for an end to the war. In the chaos, the Lunar colonies,
with a population of nearly 6 million, declare their independence from the
Commonwealth. Israel, surrounded by war, joins the Commonwealth for protection
and wisely stays out of the raging war. The tide begins to turn in the war as
Alliance armies are chased out of Egypt, Chad and Morocco. By the end of 2076,
the Alliance has been chased nearly back to their borders.
2097- The Arab-African-Indian
war rages, now claiming 300 million lives. Mozambique joins the Commonwealth
but the rest of South America remains fiercely independent. They unite to form the United States of
South America. Several Central American and Caribbean countries join as well. A
massive invasion of Alliance territory begins December 31st.
2098- By far the worst year in the war: Madras,
India, Tunis, Tunisia, Nairobi, Kenya, and Dakar, Senegal all nuked between
September 5th and 6th. Nearly 50 million die in this
attack alone. The T.U.C., now the most powerful political unit on the Earth,
calls for an immediate cease-fire. India, devastated with nearly 300 million of
her 2 billion citizens dead and hundreds of millions more sick from radiation
sickness, signs a treaty with the Arab Islamic Republic and leaves the war.
The
invasion recaptures Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, and captures Kenya, Togo, Benin,
and Nigeria.
Lagos,
Nigeria, the capital of the African Alliance, is captured on November 17th.
Secretary-General Halsai Obiang evacuates to Kinshasa, Zaire along with the
Alliance Lower and Upper Assemblies.
2099- By now, most of Africa is dominated by the
Arab Islamic Republic. Only Gabon, Congo, Namibia, Zaire, Uganda, Angola, the
Comoros and Tanzania hold out. The South African Union is absorbed into the
Commonwealth.
2100- The
fourth Arab-African war ends December 31st . Nearly 500 million have
died worldwide in the war, and much of northern and central Africa lies in
shambles. The radiation clouds have begun to cause cancers and radiation
sickness in Europe, South America and southeast Asia.
2101- The
Treaty of Addis Ababa is signed August 8th after a seven month long
conference. Under the treaty, nuclear weapons are banned from Earth and the
remaining African Alliance nations, along with India, are forced to pay
reparations to the Arab Islamic Republic. Meanwhile, the AIR is forced to
disarm. Indonesia joins the AIR and is the most distant member state.
Madagascar and the remaining Pacific Ocean nations join the Commonwealth. Under
the treaty, all extrasolar colonies are to become apart of the Commonwealth by
2150.
2103- Civil
war begins as the African Alliance begins to break up. The UN members in
Southern Africa are sent aid to help absorb refugees. The T.U.C does not get
involved in the complex, multi-factioned civil war.
2104- The
T.U.C Commonwealth Charter is finally ratified by the Senate. The head of the
T.U.C is called the Secretary-General. The Commonwealth is given broad powers
over the member states, which no one seems to mind given the alternative. In
the African Alliance, three factions arise out of dozens. The SWAPO faction
controls Namibia and southern Angola, the FFAA faction controls Zaire and the
rest is held by Alliance troops. The Secretary-General flees to Capetown on
September 8th when FFAA armies march into Kinshasa.
2105-
Massacres of civilians are occurring in Gabon during this year. An estimated
56,000 people are reportedly killed outside the capital city of Gabon,
Libreville. This occurs on July 8th.
2106- The
AIR is discovered to be aiding the multiple-sided civil war in the African
Alliance. Sanctions are imposed.
2107- The
civil war ends, with the African Alliance being absorbed into the AIR. Now,
only southern Africa is not dominated by the AIR.
2115- The
catastrophic wars and increased industry causes global warming. Tides rise by
as much as three feet, flooding Bangladesh and threatening London, the
Netherlands, Micronesia, the Maldives and the East Coast of North America. A
powerful El Nino event also does major damage globally. The Indian Ocean nation
of the Maldives is considered a loss and the 300,000 inhabitants are evacuated.
The AIR takes many of them in, along with the Indian Ocean nation of
Seychelles, an AIR protectorate.
2120- A new
Commonwealth campaign begins . . . it is titled “Onward, Upward, Outward!” It
calls for the complete colonization of the solar system by 2150, along with the
economic and environmental revitalization of Earth, especially India. Also,
the continued exploration of interstellar space is called for as well. “Onward, Upward, Outward” fails,
although it costs the Commonwealth trillions.
2122-
Commonwealth Secretary-General Clark-Ian Smith is assassinated on the steps of
the Plaza in New York City. He is succeeded by Joachim Vasco, of Oporto,
Portugal, a power-hungry man. Vasco’s vice-president is former Sec-Gen
of the African Alliance, Halsai Obiang of Rio Muni City, Equatorial Guinea.
2125-
Balkans join T.U.C..
2126- The
AIR is absorbed into the Commonwealth.
2130- The
United States of South America is absorbed into the Commonwealth. Russia
joins the Commonwealth. CIS joins T.U.C..
2150-
Japan, Democratic China and Communist China, long holdouts of independence,
join the Commonwealth. On this date, the Commonwealth now controls the entire
globe and much of the solar system. The Republic of Luna is still independent.
Earth’s
colonies remain fiercely independent, despite the fact that many different
nations founded them. On several planets, the colonies have become countries
and nations of their own.
Earth needs
the colonies to rebuild, and the Commonwealth begins to assert its authority,
quietly at first. On the densely populated colony world of Soror and other,
many of the former American and European colonies become Commonwealth
Protectorates.
Many other
worlds soon follow, and eventually by 2190 all worlds colonized by mankind fall
under Commonwealth control., sparking a resistance movement.
2150s-
About this time, the colonization boom of the late 21st century-
early 22nd century wanes.
2160-2250:
Prosperity for Earth, as the industrial base of the colonies supports an
increasingly crowded and polluted Earth.
2170-
Tachyons are discovered to have the ability to carry messages faster than
light. Expensive relay stations are built throughout the Solar System, then on
Soror. Many colonial worlds are equipped with relay stations to further unite
the Commonwealth.
2180s- The
Commonwealth government becomes increasingly militarized to deal with colonial
resistance.
2249- An
telescope on Luna spots what will become known as VX-2250, a 2 mile wide
asteroid on collision with Earth. The Commonwealth’s attempts to destroy the
asteroid fail, and massive evacuations occur on Earth.
2251, June
9th- VX-2250 impacts the Indian Ocean, wiping out all life on the coasts of
East Africa, Southwest Asia, and Western Australia. The wave batters the coasts
of Argentina and Brazil and devastate Indonesia and The Phillipines. 500
million die.
2250-2290-
The Human Exodus, as impact Winter, and Ultraviolet Spring devastate the Earth
and World environment and economy. Two billion people leave the Earth for the
Mars Federated Colonies, Soror, Grunewelt, and beyond.
2251-2260 -
The Commonwealth’s extrasolar colonies become independent.
2251,
August-December, All Commonwealth vessels retreat to Earth.
2251-2350-
Earth falls into a recession. Famine, disease, and civil wars kill an
additional 2 billion people during this period. In 2350 however, Mars
Federation and the Republic of Luna, long independent, band with Earth nations
to reform the Commonwealth and reunite Humanity.
2251-2400-
Earth’s colonies become independent nations and are fairly isolated from each
other. Trade does not exist between worlds. This is known as the Dim Age. Many
extrasolar nations revert to mid 21st century technology.
2388-
October 8th, A Commonwealth fleet of 22 military vessels arrives at
Soror.
2390-2415-
The Commonwealth Pacification of Soror. (Locally known as the Terran
Aggression) A costly measure. 7 million Terran military personnel will die in
the 25-year war, and at least 20 million residents from ten of Soror’s twelve
nations that resist the Terrans will also die. Ultimately, Soror’s twelve
nations fall under the control of the Terran Commonwealth.
2400-
Limited trade begins between the colonies and the Terran United Commonwealth.
Terrans find that in the 150-year isolation, unique cultures, lingual shifts,
and even some slight genetic changes and adaptations (major ones on Ceti Nova,
where Minerva’s closed society hid genetic experiments) have developed on the 9
Worlds. It won’t be easy to assimilate them into the Commonwealth, leaders on
Earth discover. With the pacification well under way on Soror after war breaks
out there, leaders try a newer, slower, diplomatic approach.
Many
nations have become somewhat isolationist, and are cool and suspicious to the
arrival of the Terrans, especially after word of the Pacification of Soror
spreads through the remaining 8 worlds.
2400-2450-
The old tachyon network is slowly rebuilt by the Terran United Commonwealth. By
2450, Soror, Grunewelt (only Paradiesheim) , Ceti Nova (Al-Battari and
Minerva), and Emerson (only New Florida) are connected. Very few use the
technology, as it is very expensive.
2448- Eager
to avoid the expensive horror of Soror again, the Terran United Commonwealth
visits Procyon 7, locally known as Grunewelt with four nations. Dominating the
planet is former German colony Paradiesheim and negotiations begin with the
Paradiesheimian government to persuade the rest of the planet to join the
Commonwealth.
2450- The Current
Day
