In Reading PA, located in somewhat backwards Berks County, just to the north of where I attend school, a battle is heating up over bilingual ballots. Apparently, the former County Commissioner Vernon Schaefer thinks printing ballots in English and Spanish will lead to drive-bys and all kinds of nonsense.

"Just to think (if you) print it in Spanish and they elect a Spanish mayor, what's going to happen to the city? Look at it now -- drive-by shootings and everything else. And if you have a Puerto Rican mayor, you'll really have problems on your hands."

Reading PA is 37% Hispanic.

The Justice Department (yes, John Ashcroft's Eye on America Department) is rightly threatening to sue.

We at The Storm think Vernon Schaefer is a fuckwad. I should give this racist toad the finger. But it's not worth wasting my good finger on this loser.

You can read about it here.
