I've been reading about the Texas Tech professor who's being sued for not writing recommendations for a pre-med student of creationism. At least that's how I understand it.
Anyway I thought I'd weigh in, because I think that kid is being totally stupid.
What happens when your doctor prescribes you antibiotics? They tell you to finish the bottle. This is so you don't build up an immunity to the drug and when you get sick again, you'll be covered. Sometimes, I don't like taking the entire bottle because antibiotics don't always agree with me, but I do it anyway. Hint: always take your medication with a meal, no matter what it says.
In the last few years, there's been an upsurge of TB and other nasty little buggers. You can read about it here in this action report from 1999. You can also read about it here in this report from the BBC. Now...if evolution didn't exist, then how did those nasty bugs come back since they were allegedly eradicated. Well duh, the obvious answer to me is that they mutated. This is also known as evolution. If someone chooses to believe in creationism, and that certainly is their right no matter how misguided, I certainly don't want them prescribing me medicine. In fact, if someone is going to believe in creationism, which tears apart science at every opportunity, then they shouldn't even be majoring in science or medicine in the first place. Me? I'm fairly religious as I've said before, but I accept evolution, because the facts support it. The evidence supports it. Our genes support it. So there.
I hope that kid loses his lawsuit and gets really embarrased for being so damn dumb. I wouldn't want him as my doctor.
And while I'm at it, remind me not to move to one of those states that no longer teach facts such as evolution in their public schools.
