things fall apart

Others are onto Haiti.

Finally, atrios is.

As is Jeanne D'Arc

this is just like last summer when I and a number of other bloggers appealed for aid for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the aid that came was piecemeal. It's just as frustrating hearing people say "we don't need to do that. We don't need to stick our nose there" when they then go turn around and say "look at the humanitarian success in Iraq and Afghanistan. They're free!"

Haiti is the Western Hemisphere's Congo. It's a humanitarian catastrophe, and for an administration that prides itself on "humanitarian works and interests" it's a goddamn fucking shame that it ignores Haiti and warns the Haitians to stay on their wartorn half of Hispanola while rebels overthrow social and civil order and destroy what little remains of any economy left.

Watching this unfold, and then watching people ignore it, is beyond heartbreaking.

Some research on Haiti that says there's more to this then meets the eye.
