Eyes South

I did this with Hurricane Isabel last September which gave the Mid-Atlantic a pretty good pounding. It's time to do the same with Frances. Anyone from Miami northward to North Carolina probably should start getting themselves prepared. She looks like she will visit.

Candy at the Agonist is also doing storm watch for Frances, who probably will visit the US after smashing through the Bahamas over the next couple days.

Half a million Floridians have been ordered to evacuate.
i'm back

And I consider myself smacked. Yes I meant to post last night but in true form I got distracted by some very odd British movie on A&E (or was that this morning when I woke up way too early. . . at any rate) I was distracted by something and it caused me not to post.

Actually there has been something that's kept me from posting all summer. In mid-August, I was diagnosed bipolar II, the less extreme version of bipolar disorder. Originally I was placed on Zoloft but reacted rather badly to it. I've probably had it for years...just ignored it. That's why this summer, which ended Monday morning, was so exceptionally aggravating. I figure it's important to be open about this as it will aid my recovery. And if anyone calls me psycho, technically, they are correct. Muhahahaha. It's also important to retain my sense of humor, as dark and bizarre as it may be.

For the most part, all is well. I am taking medication that works this time. I'm a lot more open with family and friends and I've found some new things to do as well. But I can't stay away from politics and being 'outraged' and this blog. And of course its an Election year. And its still hurricane season (mother nature must be pissed at us. . . Alex, Bonnie, Charlie, Gaston, Hermine and probably Frances in 4 or 5 days have smacked the US pretty good this year).

For starters, I'd like to start with the upcoming Election. I have a couple somewhat rhetorical questions to get the party started.
1. Do we really need to refight the Vietnam War? Bush's lack of service and Kerry's alleged whatever the Swift Boat Veterans are alleging is important yes, but it shouldn't be the primary focus of this election. It has been a full generation since that war ended I believe. We have a new War now---on Terror. Similar, I suppose...designed to roll back and eliminate an ideology and it will probably be our focus for the rest of this decade and probably some of the next. . . but it is not Vietnam.
2. Having spent some time hospitalized without insurance, I know how expensive it can be. Us poor folk need some kind of safety net and for the most part there really isn't any which drives up the cost of health care because those who do get treatment who are poor skip out on paying because, well, they can't. I have no intention of doing that of course, but I'm making an observation. One prescription I get for free---I pay it out of school expenses. The other...well...I probably may need to sell a kidney. What are Bush and Kerry going to do about this? I want to hear this issue, not the Swift Boat I-served-you-didn't-serve issues. Kerry seems to have a bit of a plan. I do like it, despite the allegations that it's socialist. I wonder how expensive it will be though, since we're in the season of tax-cutting. As an aside. . . mine went up. The town of Millersville started taking taxes, and the state of PA raised its tax rate to offset the lack of money coming from Washington so . . . yeah. I'm a bit bitter about that.

So that's what's up, what's been up, and something to get started on.

I apologize for being a tease (I apparently am) but you all are going to have to wait a little bit longer...school starts Monday. I'll be a lot more focused then and ready to write. I'll consider this homework meaning its more likely to get done.

Monday. You may smack me if nothing appears by Monday evening, Eastern Daylight Time of course.

Great big post coming soon. I've had a very wild ride recently and I'd like to talk about it a bit.
